CoredWire

Tivakian, manufacturer of various types of flux cored wires

What is Cordwire?

Cordwire, or flux cored wire, is a type of metal wire that is widely used in various industries, especially the metallurgical and steelmaking industries. This wire consists of a central core and an outer coating. The central core is usually made of powder of one or more metal elements that is used to add to the molten metal. The outer coating is also made of a heat-resistant metal such as steel to protect the central core and facilitate its transfer into the molten metal.

These wires are used in steelmaking processes and help to quickly separate the impurities in the steel and ultimately produce pure and high-quality steel. Helping to maintain high production speeds and accurately control chemical elements in casting are just some of the important features that cored wires have.

Benefits of Coredwire

High precision in adding alloying elements

Using cordierite, a precise and controlled amount of alloying elements can be added to the melt.

Reducing material losses

In traditional methods of adding alloying elements, some of these elements were lost due to oxidation. Using corduroy minimizes material losses.

Improving the quality of the final product

By carefully adding alloying elements, a final product with better mechanical and chemical properties can be produced.

More safety

Using corduroy also has safety advantages over traditional methods of adding alloying elements.

Features of powder-coated wire

  • Increase production speedOne of the most important advantages of using flux-cored wire is increased production speed. These wires react quickly in steelmaking processes, allowing steel to be produced more quickly.
  • Control of chemical elementsBy using flux cored wire, the chemical elements in the steel can be controlled. This ensures that the final quality of the steel is very high.
  • Reducing impuritiesOne of the main functions of the flux cored wire is to separate impurities from the steel. This allows for the production of pure, high-quality steel.

Cordwire Applications

  • Steelmaking industryThe main application of corduroy is in the steelmaking industry. By adding alloying elements such as magnesium, silicon, aluminum, etc. to molten steel, the mechanical and chemical properties of steel can be improved.
  • Foundry industriesIn the foundry industry, corduroy is also used to add alloying elements to molten aluminum, copper, and other metals.
  • Welding industriesSome types of corduroy are used in the welding process to improve weld quality.

Flux-cored wire production process

The production of flux-cored wire consists of several stages, which we will discuss below.

First stage: Preparation of raw materials

In this stage, raw materials such as ferromanganese, ferrosilicomanganese, ferrosilica, calcined petroleum coke, metallurgical coke, anthracite, and electrode paste are prepared.

Second stage: Filling the wire with alloy materials

The wires are filled with these alloy materials before they are shaped into their final form. This allows the wires to perform their function properly in the steelmaking process.

The process is carried out by a rolling machine, the input of a 14.5 mil cold sheet of Mobarakeh steel is converted into wire in the machine and is converted into wire by injecting powder materials in different stages.

Powder materials include: graphite powders for carburizing steel alloys.

Step 3: Compacting the materials

In this step, the alloy materials are compressed and formed into wires. These wires are then ready for use in various industries.

Finally, the wire is wound into a reel using a machine and packaged, the final product is the same as the cord wire or the wire in the melting powder

All these steps are carried out in the Tiwa Kian Aria factory

Cord Wire Specifications

Cord wires not only contain different elements, but also come in different sizes. Therefore, to describe the entire specification of a flux cored wire, it is important to know the following parameters:

Coil Type

The coil type is defined by the manufacturer and depends on the manufacturer’s name (product name). It usually contains the powder content and encoded information for dimensions and diameter.

Wire Diameter

The wire diameter refers to the diameter of the wire itself. In the European steel industry, the most common diameter used is 13 mm, followed by 9 mm. In the United States, 16 mm and even 21 mm are used.

Wall Thickness

The wall thickness describes the thickness of the sheath used to produce the wire. It is usually 0.4 mm, but can also be from 0.5 mm to 1 mm.

Inner Coil Diameter

This is the inner diameter of the finished coil and depends on the outer diameter of the production equipment on which the wire is wound during production.

Coil Outer Diameter

Coil-Outer-Ø is the outer diameter of the finished coil and is mainly dependent on the size of the pallet, the means of transport (truck or container) and the space in the steel mill to accommodate the coil.

Coil Height

Coil height refers to the width of the coil, from front to back. This depends on the width of the winding equipment at the core wire manufacturer.

Wire Length

Wire length refers to the total length of the finished coil after production.

Specific Filler Weight

Specific Filler Weight describes the powder content in grams per meter. Wire length calculation is very important for metallurgists and operators in the steel mill.

CoredWire Price

The price of cordwire is affected by various factors, some of the most important of which we will examine below:

Chemical composition

Type of alloy elements: The more expensive and rare the alloy elements in corduroy, the higher its price will be.
Percentage of alloy elements: Increasing the percentage of alloy elements in corduroy directly affects its price.

Particle dimensions and size

Wire diameter: Larger diameter corduroys are usually more expensive.
Piece length: The length of the corduroy pieces also affects its price.
Particle size distribution: The uniformity of the particle size affects the quality and price of the corduroy.

Production method

Complexity of the production process: The more complex the production process, the higher the production cost and, consequently, the final price of the product.
Production technology: Using modern technologies in corduroy production can reduce costs, but may require more investment initially.

Raw materials

Raw material prices: Fluctuations in the prices of raw materials used in corduroy production directly affect the final price of the product.
Raw material quality: Using higher quality raw materials increases the quality of the product and, as a result, its price.

Order quantity

Order volume: Discounts are usually offered for large volume orders.
Payment terms: Payment terms can also affect the final price.

Supply and demand

Changes in supply and demand: Fluctuations in supply and demand in the corduroy market can affect its price.
Production season: In some seasons, the demand for corduroy increases, which can affect its price.

Brand and quality

Brand: Reputable brands like Hamand Tiwakian usually offer higher quality products and therefore have a higher price.
Warranty and after-sales service: The manufacturer's provision of warranty and after-sales service can affect the price of the product.

Transportation costs

Transportation distance: The greater the distance between the producer and the consumer, the higher the transportation costs.
Type of transportation: The type of transportation (land, sea, or air) also affects transportation costs.

How to pack and deliver cordwire

The packing of flux cored wire is as follows:

A steel strip is stretched evenly around the coil from all four sides. Each coil is wrapped with plastic wrap.

Each coil is placed in a steel holder. The coil has a horizontal or vertical axis with a vertical inner opening ring. The coil and the steel holder are firmly placed on a wooden pallet, which ensures safe loading/unloading and transportation. We can also do the packing according to customer requirements.
